Naturally grown Ecosudz® are the seeds of the Sapindus Mukorossi tree. This tree is indigenous to the Himalayan mountain ranges, and is found growing wild in North India and Nepal. Ecosudz® have been used in India and Nepal since time immemorial as an effective cleanser, soapnuts2not just for washing clothes and domestic cleaning but also as a gentle natural wash or body care.

The outer shell of the Ecosudz® seed contains Saponin which is a natural detergent having all the properies of soap. The Saponin gets activated when the Ecosudz® shells come into contact with hot water.

The trees grow wild, and harvesting of the nuts takes place in October. The freshly harvested nuts have a natural golden color. This color is the result of a careful and controlled drying process, which changes the color to a deep brown-red. The dried nuts are cracked open to remove the hard seed inside while the outer shells are packed carefully, protecting against humidity.

The harvesting and processing of Ecosudz® is undertaken by us in cooperation with our Nepalese partners, whom we interact with regularly at their work sites. The collection and processing of  Ecosudz® is done entirely by the local indigenous peoples of Nepal. Many of them poor, for whom this activity is a major livelyhood source and the only means of generating income. With that being the only starting point, we have diligently put into place a complete network, from harvesting of the nuts to their final export to us thereby creating a sustainable agricultural supply chain. The benefit of which goes right back to the grassroots farmer.
